Meetings set for
proposed sanctuary

Federal officials are seeking public comment on proposed fishing regulations for waters off the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands.

The government is trying to establish a national marine sanctuary of the islands, and will hold a series of public meetings next week to discuss the issue. The meetings, set for 6 to 9 p.m., will be held at:

» The Maui Beach Hotel on Monday.
» Kamakehelei Middle School in Lihue on Tuesday.
» The Ala Moana Hotel on Wednesday.
» The Naniloa Hotel in Hilo on Thursday.
» The King Kamehameha Hotel in Kona next Friday.

For more information, contact the Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council at 522-8220. The council will accept written comments until Feb. 18.
