THE WAR IN IRAQ

Group of Hawaii
soldiers returns home

Several hundred Schofield Barracks soldiers have returned to Hawaii this week from a year-long deployment to Iraq.

More than 240 soldiers from the 84th Engineering Battalion and the 540th Quartermaster Company arrived late Wednesday night and early yesterday. Another 120 from the 84th Engineering Battalion are scheduled to arrive at Wheeler Army Airfield this morning.

The 540th Quartermaster Company is a field service company that operated shower and laundry facilities and conducted fabric and light textile repair in and around Mosul. The 84th Engineer Battalion is a heavy-equipment unit that worked on construction projects in and around Balad, including facilities, roads and runways.

About 4,500 soldiers of the 2nd Combat Brigade Team from the 25th Infantry Division based at Schofield Barracks deployed to Iraq last year.
