» "Appleseed" -- The popular Japanese manga comes to the big screen in the new animation style known as "3D Live Anime." Set in a war-ravaged future, the story centers around a female soldier rescued from ruins and taken to the Utopian metropolis of Olympus. There, she is reunited with her former partner and lover, who has been turned into a cyborg after a critical battle injury. Soon the two are entangled in a power struggle between the city's humans and cybernetic clones. (R)

» "Coach Carter" -- Samuel L. Jackson stars in a movie inspired by the true-life story of high school basketball coach Ken Carter, who received both praise and criticism when he made national news in 1999 for benching his entire undefeated team for poor grades. (PG-13)

» "Elektra" -- Jennifer Garner reprises her "Daredevil" role as an assassin-for-hire. After being revived by the Order of the Hand, she's assigned to kill a man and his teenage daughter. She befriends them, however, and decides to stand up to the Hand. (PG-13)

» "In Good Company" -- Dennis Quaid, Scarlett Johansson and Topher Grace star in this comedy in which the veteran head of magazine ad sales gets a new boss, a business school prodigy half his age, after a corporate takeover. Their uneasy friendship is thrown into jeopardy, however, when the young upstart falls in love with the sales guy's daughter. (PG-13)

» "Racing Stripes" -- A young, abandoned circus zebra, with dreams of racing glory after being taken in by a former thoroughbred trainer, takes a shot at running in the Kentucky Derby. The live animal cast is voiced by such actors as Frankie Muniz, Mandy Moore, Bruce Greenwood and Snoop Dogg. (PG)
