Hawaii Sports Car Club 2005 race schedule set

The Hawaii Region of the Sports Car Club of America announced six major races on Oahu and Maui in 2005.

The first Solo II race will take place tomorrow at Hawaii Raceway Park. About 70-90 cars will compete, from stock vehicles to race cars, in the amateur event. Each driver is given four runs through the sports-car course, and the driver with the fastest time in the class wins the class.

Points are kept throughout the year and determine prizes and trophies presented at the end of the year. Drivers must participate in more than half of the year's races to be in the running for points and run-off championship.

For more information, contact Curtis Lee at 262-5987.

Also announced were six wheel-to-wheel, Solo I, track-day racing events. The first competition will be held on Jan. 23, 2005 at Hawaii Raceway Park. In order to race SCCA regional race and Solo I, all drivers must pass a driver's school to obtain a competition license. In addition, all drivers and vehicles must have a number of safety features.
