2-story Hawaii Kai home damaged in morning fire

The American Red Cross assisted a family of three yesterday after a fire at their two-story house in Hawaii Kai.

Fire Capt. Kenison Tejada said the fire started at the four-bedroom house at 6007 Aimoku St. sometime after 9:30 a.m. Firefighters extinguished the fire at 10:09 a.m.

Tejada said the bedroom on the ground floor and the second-floor living room were affected. The blaze also damaged the exterior of the house, he said.

Investigators have yet to determine what caused the fire.

LEEWARD OAHU
Motorcyclist killed in crash is identified

The Medical Examiner's Office identified a 32-year-old motorcyclist who was killed in a crash Saturday as Dean Hampp of Ewa Beach.

Police said Hampp was traveling on Fort Weaver Road and collided into a 1993 Subaru driven by a 17-year-old girl near Kilaha Street.

Hampp was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the driver was taken to Pali Momi Medical Center in guarded condition while her passenger, a 14-year-old girl, was taken to Queen's Medical Center in critical condition.

Police said Hampp appeared to be speeding. It was the 67th traffic-related fatality this year, compared with 78 at the same time last year.

NORTH SHORE
Police name swimmer who died after rescue

The Medical Examiner's Office identified a 43-year-old visitor who died after losing consciousness in the water off Sunset Beach on Friday as Thomas Hoggs of San Lorenzo, Calif.

Lifeguards had motioned a group of swimmers to come closer to the shore, but Hoggs continued to swim away toward dangerous waters, according to an official with the Ocean Safety Division.

Lifeguards rescued Hoggs, who lost consciousness as they brought him to shore. He was taken to Kahuku Hospital where he later died.

2 men are sought in robbery of hookers

Police are looking for two men who allegedly robbed two prostitutes in downtown Honolulu.

Police said the victims, both 24, were picked up by the men at 10:30 p.m. Saturday on Kukui Street. They were taken to an area on Lusitana Street, where the suspects brandished a gun and took an undisclosed amount of cash. The case is pending investigation.

Ex-boyfriend charged with armed threat

Police charged a 19-year-old man for allegedly threatening his ex-girlfriend with a pistol.

According to police, Michael Castro of Kalihi went to his ex-girlfriend's workplace in the Ala Moana area armed with a pistol at 10:09 p.m. Friday. Police said the pistol was loaded with two rounds of ammunition.

Police arrested Castro for violating a temporary restraining order when they discovered the concealed pistol. There were no injuries. Castro is being held in lieu of $40,000 bail.
