Wallace released from hospital

Hawaii basketball coach Riley Wallace was discharged from Kaiser Permanente Medical Center yesterday and spent the day resting comfortably at home.

Wallace had an angioplasty performed to clear his right coronary artery on Wednesday. A stent was inserted in the artery, which was 90 percent blocked, to improve blood flow. He had a similar procedure performed on his left coronary artery in 1998.

He missed two days of practice this week and is expected to be back at work today as the Rainbow Warriors prepare for the 41st Outrigger Hotels Rainbow Classic. UH (5-0), the three-time defending tournament champion, faces Long Beach State on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Wahine sweep quad meet

The 19th-ranked Hawaii women's swimming and diving team ran its dual meet winning streak to 11 by beating Rice, Oregon State and Dartmouth in last night's quadrangular meet at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.

Melanie Schlanger and Nicole Mackey each won multiple events in the meet with Schlanger earning victories in the 200 and 100 free, while Mackey won in the 200 IM and 100 back.

Hawaii will next host the Duke Kahanamoku Sprint Meet at 1 p.m. on Dec. 31.
