Dodgers vet will
address UH-Manoa

Former baseball manager Tommy Lasorda, University of Hawaii President David McClain, and Emeritus Regent Ah Quon McElrath will be the commencement speakers at three University of Hawaii fall graduation ceremonies this weekend.

UH-Manoa's commencement will start at 9 a.m. Sunday at the Stan Sheriff Arena for 1,383 students receiving baccalaureate and advanced degrees.

People planning to attend the ceremony are urged to arrive early and to expect traffic congestion. Only the elevator closest to the area in the parking structure is operational.

Doors to the arena will open at 8 a.m. and will close once the arena has reached capacity. Graduates can be met at Les Murakami Stadium, where the ceremony will be broadcast live. No balloons are allowed inside the Stan Sheriff Center.

Lasorda, the former manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, will speak at the UH-Manoa graduation. McClain will speak at the UH-West Oahu ceremony Friday at Leeward Theatre at Leeward Community College beginning at 8 a.m. The university is awarding degrees to 90 candidates. McElrath will address UH-Hilo's commencement, scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday at the New Gymnasium. About 180 graduates will receive diplomas.
