Juniors play in final tournament

The Hawaii State Junior Golf Association will host its Tournament of Champions today and tomorrow at Wailea Golf Club's Emerald Course.

The 55 juniors in the event have won at least one HSJGA event such as the Callaway State Jr. Championship this year. There will be four age categories in the 36-hole tournament. Tee times are today at noon and tomorrow at 7:30 a.m.

This is the last tournament for the year and last opportunity for players to earn points for the Pre-Junior Challenge at the 2005 Sony Open. The boys and girls Players of the Year and winners of the 15-18 age divisions will be selected.

Gable holds wrestling clinic at Iolani

Dan Gable, a two-time NCAA champion and 1972 Olympic gold medalist, will hold a clinic at Iolani on Dec. 30.

Gable went on to coach at the University of Iowa, where he captured 15 NCAA team titles and 21 Big 10 team titles.

The clinic runs from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with a $40 fee per participant. It is being held a day after the Iolani Wrestling Tournament that features six teams from the mainland and 12 local schools.

UFC stars bring fight to Blaisdell

Tim Sylvia and Wes Sims of the Ultimate Fighting Championships will face off tonight in the main event of Super Brawl 38 at the Blaisdell Arena.

Although the main event pits two of the best fighters from the mainland, the undercard will feature Hawaii athletes. Falaniko Vitale of Waipahu faces Ron Fields of Cincinnati in the eighth fight after Mark Moreno of Honolulu tries to shut up Jason Miller of Atlanta.

Miller has challenged Hawaii to find an athlete able to beat him after he beat local products Ronald Juhn and Egan Inoue.

UFC contenders Rich Franklin and Curtis Stout will meet after Hawaii fighters Kolo Koka, Andre Roberts and Kai Kamaka appear on the card, which begins at 7 p.m.
