Post Office extends
hours for holidays

Most Oahu post offices will extend their office hours beginning today as Christmas approaches.

The Airport and Ala Moana post offices will be open on the last two Sundays before Christmas.

Tomorrow and Dec. 19, the Airport Post Office will be open from noon to 8 p.m., and the Ala Moana Post Office will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The following post offices will have extended hours today and Dec. 18:

» Airport: 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
» Ala Moana: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
» Aiea: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
» Aina Haina: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
» Barbers Point: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
» Ewa Beach: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
» Hawaii Kai: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
» Kailua: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
» Kaneohe: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
» Kapalama: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
» Makiki: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
» Mililani: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
» Pearl City: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
» Wahiawa: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
» Waialae-Kahala: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
» Waipahu: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The following post offices will have extended weekday hours from Monday through Friday and again on Dec. 20:

» Airport: 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
» Ala Moana: 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
» Downtown: 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
» Kailua: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
» Kaneohe: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To help reduce the wait time, postal officials will reassign staff members from administrative areas to the post office lobbies to assist customers starting Monday through Dec. 21.

Customers also have the option of using any of the 18 automated postal centers available.

The automated centers allow customers to conduct many transactions without the help of a mail clerk. Transactions can also be done after the post office closes.

Big Island

» Kailua-Kona

Customers can call 800-ASK-USPS (800-275-8777) to get information on their neighborhood post office hours.

The peak mailing day for the U.S. Postal Service is expected to be Dec. 20, when an estimated 850 million items will be processed. The busiest delivery day is expected to occur on Dec. 22.
