Hee headed to the Midwest

Kalani senior Keri Hee has officially signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at the University of Illinois at Chicago next season according to Flames head coach Nancy Mueller.

Hee, a 5-9 middle hitter, helped Kalani advance to the state tournament in each of her four years on the varsity team, highlighted by a third-place finish in 2003.

"Keri is a quick, athletic, middle blocker, who does a great job for her size," Mueller said. She also added that Hee will immediately challenge for a starting role.

Jackson headlines semi-pro game

Former Hawaii football player Nate Jackson headlines the Hawaiian Warriors, who will take on the 2004 Semi Pro Hawaii Football League champion Maui Stars tomorrow at 5 p.m. at Waianae.

Joining Jackson are Joe Correira, Ricky Daley, and Chris and Sai Paogofie. Admission is $5 with all kids under 12 free. Proceeds from ticket sales will go toward all the game expenses.

Sony Open tickets on sale

Tickets for the 2005 Sony Open Jan. 12-16 are now on sale at First Hawaiian Bank outlets throughout the island.

Tickets for daily admission are $10 or a special $50 season badge can be purchased which is good for the entire tournament, including the Pro-Am and includes a Sony Open/First Hawaiian Bank visor and a sharpie autograph pen.

The tournament will feature two-time defending champion Ernie Els and Vijay Singh and is the first full-field event of the 2005 PGA season.

Maui to host Junior Swim Championships

Maui will host the 2005 Junior Pan-Pacific Swimming Championships Jan. 5-9 at the Kihei Aquatic Center.

The Maui Sports & Entertainment Council will produce the event, along with Hawaii Swimming, Maui Age Group Swimming Association, County of Maui Parks and Recreation and USA Swimming.

More than 400 swimmers from six countries are expected for the five-day competition.
