Inouye, Redhawks still
playing ball in NCAA
tournament

Jordan Inouye is living his dream this weekend. The senior is a starter for the Seattle Redhawks (21-0-1), who play Southern Illinois-Edwardsville for the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer crown today at Wichita Falls, Texas.

"There is nothing like the final four. I can't imagine what the feeling would be like without experiencing it. I came to Seattle U. for one reason and that was to make it to this game," said Inouye.

The senior midfielder from Kaiser, who began his college career at Hawaii Pacific, has played in 20 matches, but has started the last seven.

"Jordan wasn't starting because he had a bit of an ankle injury. It wasn't easy for him, being a senior, but he was very respectful of everybody and didn't complain," said Seattle coach Peter Fewing.

"He didn't throw in the towel, just kept working hard and re-earned his starting spot. We rotate our midfielders and Jordan has been doing a great job. He is very quick, good on the dribble one-on-one and serves a pretty good cross."

Inouye has assisted on two of the Redhawks' 52 goals, but has not found the net with any of his 11 shots

"Jordan has been a pleasure to work with," said Fewing, who was alerted to Inouye's abilities by several people on the sideline when the Seattle coach was vacationing in Hawaii and watching another player.

"I went to see Jordan play the next day. I liked what I saw, liked his personality and he was interested in coming to the Northwest," said Fewing.

"It has been a great experience here," said Inouye, who talked to about 15 coaches about transferring after HPU dropped its program from varsity to club status.

Inouye is majoring in e-commerce (businesses tailored for the Internet) and graduates this spring. He would like to see if he can keep playing, experience the pro life, even if it is something small before using his degree in the work place.

More honors

Lisa Franke, JoBette Nabarro and Mayumi Stevens of the Bethel (Ind.) Pilots were named to the National Christian College Athletic Association North Central All-Region team.

Franke and Nabarro are sophomore strikers from Kealakehe and Waiakea, respectively, and Stevens is a senior midfielder from Moanalua.

The Pilots finished 14-8-1 and came in a best-ever fifth at the NCCAA tournament after beating the Christian Heritage College Hawks 2-1. Franke scored both goals. The first came off an assist from Nabarro.

Bethel coach Pete Morey described Franke's second goal.

"It was a piece of Franke magic that proved to be the decider in the 58th minute. She controlled a seemingly harmless ball outside the left corner of the box, but with time and space Lisa sent a perfect bending shot over the keeper and into the far corner of the Hawks' net," said Morey.

Franke finished the year with 28 goals and 11 assists, and is Bethel's career leader in goals (61) and points (139) scored after just two seasons. She has 17 career assists.

Nabarro scored 19 goals and had 10 assists after transferring from San Diego State.

Stevens was a two-year captain and earned two national championship rings with the Bethel basketball team.
