King Kamehameha court,
parade workers sought

Applications are available for the 89th Annual King Kamehameha Celebration Floral Parade.

The King Kamehameha Celebration Commission is accepting applications for the positions of pau queen, pau princesses, unit attendants and escorts, marching bands and marching units, floral floats, decorated vehicles and someone to portray King Kamehameha in the parade scheduled for June 11.

The commission is also seeking volunteers for the parade as well as the decoration ceremony of the King Kamehameha statue. Food vendors and craft demonstrators are also sought.

The holiday honoring King Kamehameha I was established by King Kamehameha V in 1872 in honor of his grandfather, Kamehameha the Great.

Next year's event marks the 133rd anniversary of the holiday. Its theme is "Keepers of the Treasures."

Pedestrian dies after being hit by a car

An unidentified pedestrian in his 30s died Friday night after being hit by a car on Nuuanu Avenue north of Vineyard Boulevard, police said.

A 48-year-old Honolulu man was driving a 2002 Audi convertible northbound on Nuuanu at 10:52 p.m. when a man in dark clothing tried to cross the street heading east, police said.

Alcohol appeared to be a factor on the part of the pedestrian, police said. The victim, who was walking outside a crosswalk, was taken to the Queen's Medical Center, where he later died of his injuries.

The death was Honolulu's 61st traffic fatality this year, as compared to 74 last year.

Police seek 4 suspects in identity theft case

Police and U.S. Postal Inspection Service officials want help identifying identity theft suspects recorded by video surveillance cameras.

The suspects allegedly passed checks stolen from a woman during a vehicle break-in two years ago.

The transactions were recorded Aug. 17 on cameras at a home improvement business.

One suspect is in his early- to mid- 30s, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 175 pounds, with a medium build, dark brown hair, a fair complexion and clean shaven. He was last seen wearing a cream colored aloha shirt and dark dress pants and dress shoes.

A second suspect is in his 30s, 5 feet 10 inches tall, about 180 pounds, with a muscular build, black hair, and a tan complexion. He was last seen wearing a baseball cap, long-sleeve shirt, dark shorts and athletic shoes.

A third suspect is in his 30s, 5 feet 11 inches tall, about 170 pounds, with a slim build, short spiky brown hair and a fair complexion. He was last seen wearing glasses, a T-shirt and camouflage pants.

A fourth suspect is in his late 20s, 5 feet 5 inches tall, about 140 pounds, with a medium build, dark hair, and a medium complexion. He was last seen wearing sunglasses, a white T-shirt with a circle design on the back, dark shorts, and slippers.
