McCully man is
indicted in fatal crash

A McCully man who allegedly had been drinking and speeding when he crashed his truck on Kalanianaole Highway, killing two passengers including his half brother, was indicted yesterday by an Oahu grand jury.

Jonathan Namauu, 33, was charged with two counts of manslaughter and second- and third-degree assault in connection with the fatal Feb. 1, 2003, crash.

Killed in the one-car crash were his half brother Zebedee Leahy, 21, and Jamie Singleton, 17. Also injured were Brittney Herring and Kuulei Smith, the victims of the assault charges.

Namauu allegedly had been drinking all day and later picked up the victims, who rode in the bed of the truck.

According to witnesses and police, Namauu was driving erratically and trying to pass other motorists when his truck struck a light pole near Kaiona Beach Park in Waimanalo.

Leahy and Singleton were thrown from the back of the truck and died at the scene.

At the time of the crash, Namauu was driving without a license.

Namauu could not be reached for comment.
