"SURPRISE, ANDY!": Andy Bumatai, fourth from left, got a big surprise at the Palace Showroom on Saturday when he discovered that the "Kurt Lum" who'd made reservations for four was the childhood friend he'd known as Buster Lum. Lum, second from left, came in from Mokuleia with his sons, Nickolas and Sean, and his wife, Terry, to catch the shooting of Bumatai's next DVD. Lum said that the last time he'd come into Honolulu for a show, it was to see the Rolling Stones at Aloha Stadium.

A SUPERB CONCERT: Burt Bacharach and his road manager, Sue Main, left, talked backstage with Kristin Jackson after his magnificent concert with the Honolulu Symphony in the Blaisdell Concert Hall on Friday. Bacharach had the symphony alter its usual "pops" format so he could do a 90-minute show, but said afterward that even doing most of the tunes in medleys, he still had to leave some out. The show was a wonderful trip back through almost 50 years of hits. Bacharach closed with "The Windows of the World" and "What the World Needs Now" and then came back to do "That's What Friends Are For."

CELEBRATING WITH CEE: Kimo Kahoano, left, Harry B. Soria Jr. and Soria's wife, Holly, congratulated Cecilio Rodriguez during the CD release party for his solo CD "Sweet Surprise!" at the Outrigger Waikiki on Thursday. Cee recalled days when people would tell him, "'But, you not from here.' ... But I chose to be here, the music was born here, so I belong here."
