Leeward’s needy with
Thanksgiving meal

Ko Olina Charities is holding its Thanksgiving Outreach Project for 4,000 Leeward homeless, single parents and low-income residents today. Exec chef Randal Ishizu and his staff at the J.W. Marriott Ihilani, with students from Kapolei and Waipahu high schools, have prepared turkey, ham, rice, gravy, corn, rolls and pumpkin pie. The food will be delivered to churches ...

Isle football stars McKeague, Hugo, Moore die

Sad to learn of the Nov. 11 fatal heart attack of Allen McKeague, 68. Allen was football star at Iolani (Class of '54), College of Emporia in Kansas, the University of Hawaii, and in Oahu's Senior League. A big man at 6-foot-4 and 250 pounds, he played end and linebacker. He played in Hula Bowl games against the collegiate All Americans and other top college seniors. In those days, the opposition was made up of local stars and was augmented by an NFL quarterback, running back and a few other pros. Condolences go out to Allen's children Lorena "Pooche" McKeague-Paulino and Kimberly "Tweedles" Hanzawa, to his brother Hank and sisters Henrietta Lee and Doreen Foo ...

Two former Kamehameha football stars, Tom Hugo Class of '49 and Bobby Moore Class of '47, died Monday. Both had been in ill health. Tom was a burly lineman who went on to Denver U. and was an all pro in Canadian football with the Montreal Alouettes. He later was chairman of the state Parole Board and assistant coach at Kamehameha. Condolences to his wife Julie-Beth and their family. Bobby, 75, a talented back, was a big part of coach Tommy Kaulukukui's offense at UH. He was later an exec with Lewers & Cooke ... Kobe Shoji, dad of UH Wahine volleyball coach Dave Shoji, died last Saturday at 84. He joined Clark Hatch gym when it opened in 1976. "He continued his workouts until mid-June," said gym owner Bill Monsen. "He was part of the mid-morning workout gang made up of mostly retirees and will definitely be missed. He had a calming spirit during workouts" ...
