Hafoka, Rego to play in
Oahu senior all-star game

The 14th Annual HUB Goodwill Football Classic will be played at Aloha Stadium on Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m.

The all-star game for Oahu high school seniors will be broadcast on OC-16 and streamed on the Internet by NetEnterprise, according to the game's organizers.

Damien co-head coaches Dean Nakagawa and Rudy Alejo will lead the West squad, while Randall Okimoto of Farrington will coach the East team.

Okimoto will be the first alumnus of the game to return as head coach.

"I participated in one of the first games and experienced the benefits of it," Okimoto said in a release. "In fact coach (Bob) Wagner mentioned when he recruited me at UH that he had seen me play in the game and that my performance there had piqued their interest.

"There is no doubt that this game is not only a great honor but an important opportunity as well for these high school seniors. I am proud to have a chance to give back to this prestigious game that made a big difference in my life."

Each roster will include 50 players, with both the Oahu Interscholastic Association and the Interscholastic League of Honolulu represented. At least one player will be selected from each Oahu team.

Two players have been named so far -- Kahuku wide receiver Spencer Hafoka to the East and Kamehameha running back Jayson Rego to the West. Organizers expect to fill out the rosters this week.

Tickets cost $5 and are available through each high school, with 80 percent of proceeds going back to each school. Tickets for children 6 and under are free.

For more information, call Dwight Toyama of the OIA at 421-4394, Georges Gilbert of the ILH at 441-3992 or a high school athletic department.
