C.S. Wo revamping Salt Lake store

The C.S. Wo company said yesterday it plans to close its Furnitureland home furnishings store in Salt Lake and replace it with a new store next year.

The store at 4296 Malaai St. will close in mid-December to undergo extensive renovation.

Details about the new store are still under wraps, but the company is developing "what we feel will be an exciting new name, image and concept in retail home furnishings," said Robert Wo Jr., president of C.S. Wo & Sons Ltd., which also owns and operates the C.S. Wo Gallery, HomeWorld Furniture, SlumberWorld, Laz-Z-Boy Furniture Gallery, DeZign Home and SleepLand USA.

Salt Lake Furnitureland employees will automatically transfer to the new store and will be paid during the renovation process. A store closeout and liquidation sale begins today.

The company will continue to operate its Furnitureland stores in Kona and Hilo.

Securities commissioner named

Corporate lawyer and Lingle administration adviser Corinna Wong has been named state securities commissioner, replacing Ryan Ushijima, who resigned Oct. 29 to take a job at First Hawaiian Bank.

Wong starts Monday. She will lead the Business Registration Division of the state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs and oversee state securities compliance and enforcement. She has previously served as a partner in the Palo Alto, Calif., office of law firm Baker & McKenzie and most recently served as a senior policy analyst to Gov. Linda Lingle since October 2003.

Ushijima became Hawaii securities commissioner in February 1998.
