Tom Hanks: Animation on "Polar Express" required acting.

Opening tomorrow

» "The Polar Express": Actor Tom Hanks and director Robert Zemeckis team up again after their "Cast Away" success with an all-computer generated version of Chris Van Allsburg's painterly story-book tale about a boy whisked by train to Santa's magical land on Christmas Eve. The movie uses the evolving branch of technology called "performance capture," in which actors' faces and bodies are covered in reflective dots, which cameras pick up, transposing the actors' movements directly into CG figures. Because of this, Hanks is able to play multiple virtual roles in the movie -- as the train conductor, the boy, the boy's father, a hobo and Santa Claus. (G)

Woody Harrelson and Pierce Brosnan star in "After the Sunset.

» "After the Sunset": A jewel thief (Pierce Brosnan) retires to the Bahamas with his wife and partner in crime (Salma Hayek), where one last diamond heist materializes. He's trailed by his FBI nemesis (Woody Harrelson) and confronts a local hood (Don Cheadle). Directed by Brett Ratner ("Rush Hour"). (PG-13)

» "Seed of Chucky": The popular "Child's Play" horror-comedy series continues as killer dolls Chucky and Tiffany try raising a child while wrecking the shoot of a movie about them. (R)
