» The varsity football game between Saint Louis and Damien on Friday was stopped for a fight that resulted in the ejection of two players from each team and Damien co-head coach Dean Nakagawa. However, the game did not end early as was reported on Page B2 in the Oahu edition of yesterday's Star-Bulletin.

Kevin Sullivan and Andrew Shriver combined to rush for 169 yards as the Saint Louis Crusaders blanked the Damien Monarchs 27-0 yesterday at Kamehameha in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu game shortened by a fight on the field.

With the outcome already decided, the game was stopped with less than 3 minutes remaining in the third quarter after a scuffle erupted between the two teams.

The fight and the arguing thereafter resulted in the ejection of four players, two from each team, and Damien co-head coach Dean Nakagawa.

"Tempers flared," Saint Louis head coach Delbert Tengan said. "But I'm glad the referees got it under control."

The incident marred the return of two quarterbacks injured earlier in the season. Saint Louis signal caller Stanley Nihipali, who missed two games with a separated shoulder, completed only three of 11 passes, but was able to earn big yardage in the process, throwing for 88 yards without an interception.

"We practiced in the rain all this week, so we were used to it," Tengan said of yesterday's miserable conditions. "(Passing) is Stanley's strength, so we tried to do some of it."

The Crusaders had no problem relying on their ground game, utilizing Sullivan and Shriver throughout the game. Sullivan carried the ball 11 times for 86 yards, with Shriver gaining 83 yards on seven carries.

Each scored a touchdown, including Shriver's 37-yard breakaway down the middle of the field in the third quarter.

"They've been a good one-two punch for us all season long," Tengan said. "In this kind of weather, that's the kind of game you need to play."

The wet conditions made it difficult to hold onto the ball, as the two teams fumbled the ball a combined 12 times. Saint Louis saw its first two drives end with fumbles.

Midway through the first quarter, the Monarchs brought in senior quarterback Zachary Shimizu, who shattered his collarbone in the preseason and had not played since.

"He (Shimizu) being a senior, we wanted to give him a good time in his last chance. We didn't want to endanger him," Damien co-head coach Rudy Alejo said.

"He's a very strong-minded individual, and he just stuck with us with the intent that he was going to come back. We gave him a chance to let him finish what he started."
