Center planned
for Kapolei

The MacNaughton Group, the developer of the Waikele Center, has announced plans to build a two-story retail and office center in Kapolei on land the company recently acquired from Campbell Estate.

The company plans to build a 22,000-square-foot center, called Kapolei Parkway Shops, on a 1.7-acre lot at the corner of Kapolei Parkway and Kamokila Boulevard. The property, which will front Home Depot, will be located next to the Outback Steakhouse.

"Kapolei continues to mature as a retail and office destination and we're confident that this project will provide another opportunity for the Kapolei residents and businesses alike," said Eric Tema, director of real estate development for the MacNaughton Group.

The project should help alleviate congestion at the Fort Barrett intersection by spreading out retail choices for consumers, Tema said.

"Retail is spreading in Kapolei and that's good because we can shop without traveling so far," said Maeda Timson, chairwoman of the Makakilo/Kapolei/Honokai Hale Neighborhood Board.

The transaction is scheduled to close by the end of this year and construction is expected to start during the third quarter of 2005, with opening scheduled for the fourth quarter.

Tenants at the center will include a drive-through Starbucks and a Jamba Juice.
