WHAT ARE THE ODDS?: Tom Moffatt, center, talked with Lea Salonga, fourth from left, as she relaxed with her husband, Rob Chien, far right, after her marvelous 2-hour show in the Blaisdell Concert Hall on Tuesday. Salonga quickly proved herself an engaging and multi-faceted singer, storyteller and comedienne as she sang a judiciously mixed bag of jazz standards, pop tunes, a Tagalog song or two, and all her own must-do numbers from "Miss Saigon," "Les Miz," "Aladdin" and "Mulan." Salonga's concert performance was one of the year's best here thus far. Among the VIPs who went backstage to see her after the show were Rocky Brown, a friend since they worked together in "Miss Saigon," and her husband, jazz artist DeShannon Higa. So, what are the odds that Brown's husband and Salonga's husband would wear shirts of the same color?

"CONGRATULATIONS, KALIKO!": Hawaii State Film Commissioner Donne Dawson, right, congratulated director Kaliko Palmeira on winning a Blockbuster Video Audience Award for "Steve Ma'i'i," his documentary film on the life and times of Steve Ma'i'i, during the Hawaii International Film Festival 2004 Gold Maile Awards at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel on Wednesday.

AN AWARD WELL DESERVED: Buffalo Keaulana, left, was there in the Monarch Room when his son, Brian, and the men of the Hawaiian Water Patrol received the HIFF Film in Hawaii Award in recognition of their work to make Hawaii the world's top tropical film location. A video of the men at work proved the point.

PUT THE NEEDLE ... : Jeremy VerStrat, left, was among the electronic music fans who caught the late night HIFF showing of Jason Rem's documentary, "Put The Needle On The Record," at Dole Cannery on Thursday. Rem does a 4-star job capturing the sound, the soul and the evolution of modern electronic music.

IN THE HOUSE FOR HILARY: Taylor Freeman, left, met veteran "Oldies 107.9" Honolulu radio personality and recording engineer Ron "The Real Ron O'Neal" Klohs, and his daughter, Carly, as kids and their parents were filling the lower level seating in Blaisdell Arena for Hilary Duff's concert here on Saturday.
