'Halloween Salute to the Seventies'

With the Honolulu Symphony Pops

Where: Blaisdell Concert Hall

When: 8 p.m. today and tomorrow

Tickets: $25, $35, $45, $55 and $70

Call: 792-2000

From freaks and ghouls to '70s cool, the Matt Catingub-led Honolulu Symphony Pops "Halloween Salute to the Seventies" promises a weekend "spooktacular" tonight and tomorrow night at the Blaisdell Concert Hall. Guest vocalists Anita Hall and Zanuck Lindsay will lend their talents to Catingub's arrangements of classics by Earth Wind & Fire, the Jackson 5, Linda Ronstadt and assorted icons of the 8-track tape era.

Special guests The Captain & Tennille, renowned for such '70s hits as "Love Will Keep Us Together" and "Muskrat Love" will join the orchestra for several numbers, while timpanist and guest conductor Stu Chafetz -- who will be appropriately attired as comic book and movie hero Spider-Man -- will join Catingub in judging the event's costume contest both nights. A pair of tickets to Las Vegas will be awarded for first place each night.

"It's always a lot of fun," enthuses Chafetz. "We're back with all those great tunes -- I mean, you can't get more '70s than 'Muskrat Love.'"
