Martin takes turn as player of the week

Hawaii Pacific sophomore Barbara Martin was named PacWest Player of the Week yesterday after averaging 3.44 kills per game while hitting .459 in three Sea Warriors road matches.

Martin is ranked seventh in the nation in hitting percentage (.416) and is 17th in blocks per game (1.4). Hawaii Pacific has owned the player of the week award for four of the past five weeks.

Vulcans seventh after first round

The Hawaii-Hilo women's golf team trails tournament leader Cal Poly San Luis Obispo by 10 strokes and sits in seventh place after the first round of the Golf Mart/Lady Otter Invitational in Seaside, Calif.

Freshman Kiilani Matsuyoshi shot a 6-over 79 which tied her for eighth place among individuals. Mineko Kanemoto is tied for 22nd after shooting a 9-over 82, while Kristin Higa is at 13 over and Breena Kadekaru 16 over.

Oda captures Futures qualifier

Former University of Hawaii tennis player Malino Oda earned a spot in the Hilton Waikoloa Village Futures Tournament by winning a qualifying tournament yesterday.

Oda defeated Jeremy Moitry 6-3, 7-5 in the finals to advance to the Futures tournament, which will be held Nov. 8-14.

WAC soccer tournament tickets on sale

Tickets for the 2004 Western Athletic Conference women's soccer tournament, Nov. 4-6 at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Park Stadium, are on sale.

Both single-session tickets and all-session packages are available at all University of Hawaii outlets, including the Stan Sheriff Center box office, UH Campus Center, Windward Community College and Rainbowtique Ward Centre. Tickets may also be purchased online at eTicketHawaii.com or by calling 944-2697.

All-session prices are $20 for adults, $10 for UH students with a school ID and $8 for youngsters ages 5-18. The single-session prices are $8 for adults, $4 for UH students with a school ID and $3 for youngsters ages 5-18.

Game times are 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. for the first round and semifinals, with the championship match set for Nov. 6 at 4 p.m.
