Rainbows' Peciukas out indefinitely

Hawaii senior swingman Vaidotas Peciukas will be sidelined indefinitely due to a tear of the medial collateral ligament in his left knee.

The 6-foot-7 Peciukas said his knee began to bother him after a weight workout last week and it was aggravated during Sunday's practice. An MRI taken Tuesday revealed the damage to the MCL, which provides the main support to the inside of the knee.

No decision has been made regarding possible surgery.

The Rainbow Warriors open with 4 p.m. exhibition game against Brigham Young-Hawaii on Nov. 14. The season opener is against Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 23.

UH basketball season tickets on sale: Season tickets for Hawaii men's basketball go on sale Monday. Tickets can be purchased at the Stan Sheriff Center box office, over the phone (944-BOWS) or over the Internet (www.etickethawaii.com).

Upper-level tickets are $49 for UH students, $79 for students 4-18, and $195 for adults. Tickets in the Manoa Maniacs lower section for UH students are $69, but don't include the Rainbow Classic.

The Super Rooter lower section is $69 for UH students and also does not include the Rainbow Classic. A guest ticket in the Super Rooter section is $175 plus a $50 premium-seat contribution.

Season tickets for Rainbow Wahine basketball go on sale Nov. 8.

BYUH remains at No. 13 in water polo poll

Brigham Young-Hawaii is in the No. 13 spot in the Collegiate Coaches Water Polo poll for the fourth consecutive week.

It is the highest ranking in the program's history.

The Seasiders beat Chaminade 21-6 last week. BYUH travels to play UC-Davis -- tied with the Seasiders at No. 13 in the poll -- next Thursday.

Honolulu Masters Swimposium coming up

The Oahu Club will put on the Honolulu Masters Swimposium and Super Swim Challenge Oct. 30-31.

The Swimposium will take place in two parts -- a program that includes former Olympians, coaches and stroke analysts and an author; and a swim clinic that will include pool and instruction with experts, including Rowdy Gaines.

Swimposium registration is $10.

The Super Swim Challenge will be United States Masters Swimming sanctioned competition. There will also be a special exhibition relay, in which entrants can sign up to swim on a team with an Olympian. The Super Swim is $30.

PONY League registration

The Aiea PONY League will hold registration for youngsters age 5-17, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pearlridge Field. A copy of the player's birth certificate and medical insurance needed. The season runs from December to May.

Rainbow fall baseball camp

Two-day camp for high school players, age 16-18, is Saturday and Sunday at Les Murakami Stadium from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $100 and includes a T-shirt.

The camp, conducted by Mike Trapasso and staff, is an intensified instructional camp that covers all aspects of the game and includes a professional style workout.

Oliveira triple-doubles HPU past WNMU

At Silver City, New Mexico, No. 14 Hawaii Pacific ran its record to 15-1 all-time against Western New Mexico with a 30-24, 30-24, 31-29 win over the Mustangs Tuesday night.

Vera Oliveira had her first career triple-double for HPU with 10 kills, 46 assists and 17 digs. She also had eight blocks. Hawaii Pacific's entire front row -- Flavia Brakling, Nadica Karleusa and Barbara Martin -- had double-double efforts.

Tuesday night's was not a Pacific West Conference match, though both teams are PWC members.
