Chaminade breaks into top 25

The Chaminade women's volleyball team made its first appearance in the CSTV/AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 poll this season at No. 25 in the latest rankings released yesterday.

Hawaii Pacific reappeared in the top 25. The Sea Warriors were dropped from the rankings after not turning in their ballot last week. The Sea Warriors are ranked 14th with a 14-2 record. The Silverswords are 11-3.

Yamamoto captures Senior Invitational

George Yamamoto shot a second-consecutive 2-over-73 to win his fourth Oahu Country Club Senior Men's Invitational yesterday. It was his first victory in the tournament since he three-peated from 1999 to 2001.

Russ McGarry won the senior flight (ages 55-64) with a two-round total of 147, three strokes better than runner-up Tom Goodbody.

Vulcans dominate Elco

Hawaii-Hilo won its second title in three tournaments with a dominating performance at the Elco Intercollegiate Golf Tournament yesterday in Bakersfield, Calif.

The Vulcans scored 294 on the final day to win by 16 strokes. Colin Gilliam became the first Vulcan to win an individual title this year by firing a final-round 71 for a two-shot victory.

Nick Mason, Tysen Shinaut and Kevin Shimomura all finished tied for 21st with a three-round score of 218.

Wolf Pack Classic rained out

The Hawaii men's golf team did not get a chance to improve on its 17th-place standing yesterday as the final day of the Wolf Pack Classic was rained out.

The Warriors will compete next in the Barona Collegiate Cup, Oct. 25-26, in San Diego, Calif.

Globetrotters tickets on sale

Tickets for the Nov. 30 Harlem Globetrotters exhibition at the Blaisdell Arena are on sale.

Tickets range from $10 to $35, with special discounts available for military, seniors 65 and older, and children 12 and under and can be purchased at the Blaisdell Box Office and all Ticketmaster locations.

Olympic medalist returns home

Susan Williams, a bronze medal winner in the triathlon at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, will visit her alma mater, Aliamanu Middle School, to announce plans for the 2005 JAL Honolulu Triathlon tomorrow.

Williams earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic team, in part due to her third-place finish in the inaugural Honolulu Triathlon earlier this year. Williams will speak to the entire Aliamanu student body prior to the press conference.
