Ben Affleck: Tries to recapture his childhood in "Surviving Christmas."


"The Grudge": For the first time, a Japanese horror remake is being directed by its original Japanese director. Takashi Shimizu translates his 2003 creeper "Ju-on" for a Western audience, with Sarah Michelle Gellar starring as caretaker of a Tokyo house that is under a murderous curse. (PG-13)

"Surviving Christmas": Ben Affleck plays an obnoxious record executive whose psychiatrist advises him to return to his childhood home for Christmas after his girlfriend dumps him. Finding another family living there, he pays them to relive the happy holidays of his past. Also starring James Gandolfini and Christina Applegate. (PG-13)
