Win gives Iolani
a boost

Cinderella would smile on the Iolani Raiders.

She'd certainly root for the Castle Knights, and she'd be miffed, perhaps, about the fate of the Punahou Buffanblu.

Iolani's resounding upset of then-No. 2 Saint Louis on Saturday was a proverbial shot heard around the world. The Raiders' 36-31 victory opened the door wider for a possible Interscholastic League of Honolulu championship.

The panel of media and coaches elevated Iolani three positions to No. 6 in the Star-Bulletin Top 10 released today.

Kahuku kept its lock on No. 1 with six of seven first-place ballots. Mililani vaulted one spot to No. 2, followed by Kamehameha. Lahainaluna and Saint Louis share the fourth spot.

Castle has enjoyed plenty of cardiac moments, the latest being a remarkable 29-28 comeback victory at Roosevelt on Friday night. The Knights, who pulled a dramatic win over Kailua earlier in the season by the same score, seemed out of luck with 2 minutes left and Roosevelt in possession of the ball.

Still, voters dropped the Knights two spots to No. 9.

That's still better recognition than Punahou received. The Buffanblu, whose four losses have been to top-5 teams, failed to receive a vote.
