& Slippahs fund-
raiser has strong cast


Some of Hawaii's outstanding entertainers perform 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Nov. 6 at La Pietra for Parents And Children Together's Starlight & Slippahs fund-raiser. The event raises funds for domestic-violence programs. Entertainers include Nina Kealiiwahamana, Danny Kaleikini, Gary Aiko, Mahi Beamer, Iwalani Kahalewai, Bev Noa, Kualoa and Kuhio O Polynesia, a halau from Kuhio Park Terrace. Kimo Kahoano is emcee. Food from leading restaurants will be available with wine and beer. Frank Haines is honorary chair and Lowell Kalapa heads the committee of volunteers. Call 847-3285 for $100 tickets ...

Clark Hatch gym member John Heckathorn has dropped more than 20 pounds, lost 3 inches off his waist and 2-1/2 inches off his hips in the past few months thanks to his workouts and dieting. John is editor of Honolulu magazine ... Oprah Winfrey's personal trainer Bob Greene will lead the Honolulu Marathon's 6.2-mile Race Day Walk on Dec. 12 ...

Percy Chee keeps his eye on longtime friends

Opthamologist Percy Chee invited members of Roosevelt's Class of '54 Rough Rider newspaper staff to enjoy Oktoberfest at Waialae Country Club Wednesday night along with a few other classmates. Percy took photos for the paper and it was through photography that he met his wife, Carolyn Tong, a photographer from McKinley High. Carolyn became a Narcissus queen while at UH and was followed as queen the next year by Jade Ing Sen, RHS '55, another party guest. Rough Rider co-editors Barbara Fuller de Frondeville and Caroline Matano Yang and sports editor Bill Kwon attended the dinner. Others included class members Joyce Kono Fasi, Calvin Nekonishi and Mayette Lum Zane, a former UH Kapalapala beauty queen. German food by Guido Ulmann and his staff and music by the Edelweiss band were excellent ...

Past and present Hawaiian Airlines employees should not forget the "Jazz It Up" reunion dinner party Nov. 6 at the Ala Moana Hotel's Garden Lanai. The party is organized by Hui Koa'e Kea, the airlines' DC-3 hostesses of 1943-53. Singer Napua Davoy and Imai and Friends will entertain. Tickets are $30. Call Abbie Funn Choy at 262-5252 reservations ... Some of the former hostesses who contacted me about the party said they were happy about me getting remarried. Wow! The "marriage" is news to me. That's something I should have remembered. I wish they could tell me who I married so I can enjoy the benefits ...
