Conference to equip women in ministries

A program of speakers, dramatizations and music next Saturday will teach and equip church women for ministries.

"Learning to Live in His Spirit" is the theme of the Christian Women's Conference 2004, sponsored by Island Women Empowered by God. The program from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Cornerstone Fellowship, 95-1080 Ukuwai St., Mililani Mauka, will feature:

» JoAnn Au, Karlyn Miyashiro and Vicky Kawamae of the sponsoring organization.

» Suzanne Maurer of Honolulu's First Presbyterian Church.

» Annette Tupua of Holy Hill of Zion Full Gospel Church.

» Kim Harper of KAIM-FM "The Fish" Christian radio.

» Musicians Liane Vierra and Taurie Lasconia.

» Lyn Reynolds and Friends drama group.

The $40 cost includes lunch. To register call 398-6239.

1.5-mile walk to aid Bible Institute efforts

The Bible Institute of Hawaii aims to benefit body and soul with its annual "Walk in the Word" fund-raising event.

The Oct. 23 event will begin at 7 a.m. at the McCoy Pavilion at Ala Moana Park with a worship service followed by a 1.5-mile walk around Magic Island. It is open to anyone interested.

Participants raise money through sponsors' contributions to benefit institute programs. People who bring in large donations qualify for prizes with a Disneyland trip for two as the grand prize.

A silent auction will follow.

The $10 entry fee includes a T-shirt. For registration information, call 943-0833.
