Episcopal church holds benefit chocolate fest

Emmanuel Episcopal Church members reject the theory that chocolate is sinful.

The Kailua congregation will present "A Chocolate Extravaganza" next Saturday, an evening of music and the opportunity to sample an array of desserts created by island restaurant chefs and home bakers.

A chocolate fondue fountain will be among the features at the event from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at 780 Keolu Drive.

The event will benefit Honolulu Habitat for Humanity and church programs.

Tickets at $10 are available at the door for everyone over 4 years old.

Groups put on annual Thanksgiving Festival

Shinto ritual will be followed by music and dance by Japanese and Okinawan cultural groups next weekend at the annual Thanksgiving Festival at Izumo Taishakyo Mission of Hawaii in Chinatown.

The traditional autumn festival, now in its 98th year, expresses gratitude for blessings bestowed on families, businesses and the nation in the past year. It is open to the public.

It will begin at 2 p.m. Oct. 10 at the mission at 215 N. Kukui St., across from the Chinese Cultural Plaza, with a procession of members carrying a portable shrine.

Stage performances beginning at 3 p.m. will include Mochimaki, Hawaii Matsuri Taiko Group, Bando Ryu Dancing, Nakasone Ryukyu Buyo and karaoke led by John Sakai Music Studio. A fellowship supper will be served after 4 p.m.
