Fund-raiser for
Meals on Wheels Oct. 8


Hawaii Meals on Wheels is celebrating 25 years of providing home-delivered meals to frail, elderly and disabled homebound people with its first fund-raiser Oct. 8.

The dinner and silent auction, celebrating "25 Years of Meals from the Heart," will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Japanese Cultural Center. Call 988-6747 for more information about the event or to volunteer or qualify for the program.

The program began with six clients, six volunteers and $25. Now Meals on Wheels serves more than 200 homebound people each weekday with the help of hundreds of volunteers.

Founding churches to be recognized include Central Union, Church of the Crossroads, First Christian, First Presbyterian, First Unitarian Church of Honolulu, First United Methodist, Lutheran Church of Honolulu, Manoa Valley and the Parish of St. Clement.

Also to be honored are co-founder Irmgard Hormann and Ken and Alice Chun.
