Vegas proves unlucky for Rainbow Wahine

The Rainbow Wahine tennis team dropped all 10 of its matches on the first day of the UNLV Fall Invitational in Las Vegas yesterday.

Lauren Fitzgerald had the longest singles match for UH, losing her Flight 1 match 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 to Elena Gantcheva of UNLV.

Gold medalist Walsh advances

Punahou graduate Sean Scott won two matches to advance out of the first round at yesterday's AVP Best of the Beach tournament at Queens Beach. Scott will pair up with Mike Lambert to play George Roumain and Larry Witt today. Kevin Wong, another Punahou grad, lost yesterday.

Sea Warriors beat Silverswords

The No. 9 Hawaii Pacific volleyball team defeated Chaminade 30-18, 23-30, 30-25, 30-25 at McCabe Gym last night.

With the win, the Sea Warriors improved to 3-0 in the PacWest and 9-1 overall while the Silverswords fell to 2-1 and 7-3.



WIE SHOOTS 79 AT WAIKOLOA

Michelle Wie shot a 79 yesterday at the Waikoloa Open, a men's event on the Big Island. After one round, the 14-year-old is tied for 12th in the championship flight, seven shots behind leader Shannon Tanoue. The day's best round was a 67 by Steven Hookano in the senior pro flight.
