Wong starts undefeated

Punahou graduate Kevin Wong was the only local player to win both matches in the first two rounds of the AVP Best of the Beach tournament which began yesterday at Queens Beach.

After pairing with Casey Jennings to win his first-round match, Wong teamed with fellow Punahou graduate Sean Scott to defeat Jennings and his partner, Adam Jewell, in his second match.

Another Buffanblu graduate, Mike Lambert, and former University of Hawaii volleyball player Jason Ring went 1-1 in their opening matches.

Basketball officials to meet

The State Association of Hawaii Basketball Officials will hold a general membership meeting Oct. 18 at the Makiki District Park Arts and Crafts room.

The meeting runs from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Those interested in officiating basketball games at the youth, high school, college and adult levels are encouraged to attend.
