Irons upset in Boost Mobile Pro

Reigning world surfing champion Andy Irons of Kauai was upset by Californian Dane Reynolds in round two of the Boost Moblie Pro yesterday at Lower Trestles, Calif.

Reynolds, a wild-card entrant, posted a score of 15.5 points. Irons finished with 14.6 and will have to settle for 33rd place.

Hawaii surfers Jamie O'Brien, Bruce Irons and Sunny Garcia were also eliminated.

Lowe promoted to assistant AD

Brigham Young-Hawaii sports information director Scott Lowe has been named the school's assistant athletic director, BYUH AD Ken Wagner announced yesterday.

Lowe has been at BYUH for seven years and will be responsible for media relations and game management for the Seasiders' 10 sports.

Niketown 5 increases entry limit

The entry limit for the Niketown 5 has been increased to 6,000 runners, up 1,000 from last year.

The fifth annual race is set for Oct. 3 starting at 7 a.m. The 3.1-mile run starts and finishes at Niketown on Kalakaua Avenue.

The early-registration deadline is Monday. The fee is $20 for adults 19 years old and over and $15 for runners 18 and under.
