Kyono ties for fourth at Dick McGuire Invitational

Kauai graduate Rachel Kyono of Pepperdine shot 2-under par 71 yesterday to finish tied for fourth place while University of Hawaii sophomore Sara Odelius tied for seventh in the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.

Kyono finished with a three-day total of 209 for the Waves, who placed third in the team standings. Odelius led the UH women's golf team at 219. The Rainbow Wahine closed their first tournament of the season in 14th place.

Georgia, led by individual champion Kelly Froelich, won the tournament.

Rainbow Wahine hosts Big Wave meet

The University of Hawaii cross country team hosts the Big Wave Invitational on Saturday at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course.

The men's race starts at 7:30 a.m. and the women's race is scheduled for 8.

Joining the UH women's team in the meet held at the Kaneohe Marine Corps Base are men's and women's teams from Brigham Young-Hawaii, Hawaii Pacific, Chaminade, Houston, Occidental, Mt. San Antonio College and Pomona Pitzer.

Free sailing canoe clinic at Kailua

The Hawaiian Sailing Canoe Association is hosting a free sailing canoe clinic Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. near the Kailua Beach boat ramp.

The event will include sails around Kailua Bay for Hawaii residents and visitors as well as opportunities to discuss the history of the sport with the canoe captains and crew members.

The HSCA recently completed its 17th season as world's only sailing canoe association. For more information contact Terry Galpin at 247-3559. The web site is www.hsca.biz.

Doubles tournament set for Central Oahu

The Hawaii-Pacific Tennis Foundation will host a doubles tournament Sept. 25 and 26 at the Central Oahu Regional Park Tennis Complex.

Competition will be held in 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 and Open divisions for men's and women's teams. Mixed doubles play will feature 6.0, 7.0, 8.0. 9.0 and Open divisions.

The entry fee is $30 per team, $20 for members of the foundation. Entry forms are available at the Central Oahu Regional Park Tennis Complex or online at hawaiitennis.org. The deadline to enter is Sept. 20.For more information, call (808) 677-1334.
