The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

A&B posts gain

Alexander & Baldwin Inc., whose Matson Navigation Co. subsidiary launched a new Hawaii containership this week, rose 4.2 percent to lead 10 other stocks in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index. A&B closed yesterday at $32.67, off 3.2 percent for the year.

Central Pacific Financial Corp., which is expected to close its merger next week with City Bank's parent, CB Bancshares Inc. , rose 1.8 percent to $28.50.

CB Bancshares gained 1.3 percent to an all-time high of $95.75.
