Art contest for students
inspired by movie

The City and County of Honolulu, DreamWorks Animation and the Hawaii State Department of Education have teamed up to sponsor an art contest inspired by the animated movie "Shark Tale," set to open Oct. 1.

Students in grades K through 12 are invited to submit original artwork to their teacher based on the theme "Show & Tale Us What About the Ocean Inspires You!"

Students have until Sept. 17 to turn in works in any medium (painting, drawing, mixed media and/or coloring). Winners from each grade category will be awarded prizes from the movie, with a grand-prize winner to receive:

>> A private screening of "Shark Tale."

>> A free Hewlett-Packard computer for the student's school.

>> $500 worth of art supplies for the student's classroom.

>> A weekend stay at Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel for the winner and family.

Awards will be presented at Brunch on the Beach on Sept. 26.

In the film, Oscar (Will Smith) is a fast-talking little fish who dreams big. At first, his fellow fish swallow one of Oscar's great white lies hook, line and sinker and shower him with fame and fortune, but it starts to become clear that Oscar's tale about being the defender of the Reef is all wet.

In addition to Smith, "Shark Tale" features the voices of Robert De Niro, Renee Zellweger, Angelina Jolie, Jack Black, Martin Scorsese, Peter Falk, Doug E. Doug and Ziggy Marley.

For more information about the art contest, call Andrea Galvin at 922-8630.
