Worker shortage draws concern

A consultant will speak locally Monday about the impending nationwide work force shortage that will be caused by retiring baby boomers and a lack of younger people ready to take their place.

New Generation Consulting's Rebecca Ryan will discuss "Hot Jobs -- Cool Communities" at 5:30 p.m. at the Mission Memorial Auditorium. The speech will be open to the public.

The talk is being sponsored by the city, the Urban Land Institute, Outrigger Hotels and Resorts, the Hawaii Chamber of Commerce and the state Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism.

Hawaii Kai townhomes to be sold

Texas home builder D.R. Horton is releasing the first townhomes for sale in its new 87-unit Hawaii Kai development, Moana Kai, later this month.

The townhomes come in seven floor plans, ranging from 1,244 square feet to 1,716 square feet. The company said it has received many phone calls and Web inquiries from potential buyers. Prices listed on D.R. Horton's Web site list the homes starting at about $450,000.
