Get healthy on Maui

Grand Wailea Resort's Spa Grande is offering new, custom-blended energy drinks that will help you tackle some of its 47 weekly fitness classes, including a sunrise power walk and boot camp for all fitness levels.

The three types of energy drinks are available in creamy vanilla, strawberries and cream, chocolate malt and wild berries and cream flavors. The drinks are intended to work as follows:

>> Meal replacement: Contains protein, micronutrients, vitamins and minerals needed to help muscles recover, repair and grow, with 19 grams of carbohydrates.

>> Advance protein: Enhances your immune system and increases recovery time between workouts, at 6 grams of carbs.

>> Womens' body-sculpting protein: Contains natural ingredients that curb the appetite and stimulate fat burning, with 11 grams of carbs.

Guests may also choose to add honey, bananas or peanut butter to their drink for added protein and flavor. The 14-ounce drinks are $7 and available in the fitness center and Terme Wailea Hydrotherapy. The Spa Grande also offers pre-measured packets for home-use.

Those who wish to incorporate a "Made in Maui" fruit juice into their workout, can visit Maui Juice, at Spa Grande's Fitness Center. Seven refreshing flavors include ginger blast, strawberry passion, aloe lime C charge, and noni lemonade with turmeric. The 16-ounce drinks run $4 to $4.50.

Taste of Lahaina

If you need more than liquid sustenance while on Maui, you're in luck. The 13th annual "A Taste of Lahaina" and the "Best of Island Music" take place 5 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Lahaina Recreation Center Park II.

Maui restaurants will again compete for the "Best of the Taste" awards, as visitors purchase scrip for a taste of edibles from 26 food booths, such as Lahaina Fish Co.'s Ahi Wellington with sake soy butter sauce; The Pioneer Inn Bar & Grill's coconut shrimp with toasted sesame dressing; or Roy's Kihei's Plantation Bento Box of garlic-soy braised pork belly with luau-leaf sauce.

Friday night's entertainment will be provided by Noland Conjugacion, Kapena with Justin Kawika Young, and Tapa Groove. On Saturday, Maurice Bega, Richard Ho'opi'i, Nuff Sedd, and Ho'onua perform.

The Keiki Fun Zone also returns with shave ice, cotton candy, kid-friendly inflatable attractions and carnival games.
