Red Cross aids victims of Waianae house fire

The Red Cross of Hawaii was assisting victims of a Waianae house fire last night, which was under control at about 9:40 p.m. The fire was reported at 86-550 Mailiili Road, a fire department dispatcher said.

A fire investigator was sent to the scene last night to look into the cause of the fire.

Details on the extent of the fire were not available. No injuries were reported.

Big Island man, 33, drowns off Puna

A 33-year-old Big Island man drowned in waters off Puna yesterday, Hawaii County police said.

The man was identified as Justin Brown, of a Leilani Estates subdivision.

Police said the victim had been seen paddling his surfboard with diving equipment into Pohoiki Bay at about 4 a.m. yesterday. An autopsy has been ordered.

Male suspect sought in Manoa sex assault

Police are looking for a man in his 20s who allegedly sexually assaulted an 18-year-old woman in a Manoa apartment early yesterday, police said. The incident happened at about 12:50 a.m. No other information on the suspect was available.
