Chaminade swept at UC San Diego

LA JOLLA, Calif. >> Chaminade's volleyball team was swept last night for its first loss of the season, falling at UC San Diego 30-23, 30-18, 30-20.

The Tritons were led by three players with 10 kills each -- Katie Hogan, Lindsay Crandell and Bonnie Wilson.

Kahala Kabalis led Chaminade with nine kills. Kalae Araujo had 10 digs.

The Silverswords fell to 2-1. UC San Diego is an undefeated 6-0.

Seasiders ranked No. 17 in preseason poll

Brigham Young-Hawaii was ranked No. 17 in the country in the Collegiate Coaches Water Polo Preseason Poll released yesterday.

This is the third consecutive time the Seasiders have cracked the preseason top 20. Last season, BYUH finished the year at No. 16 after having ranked as high as No. 14.

BYUH opens its season Saturday and Monday, hosting No. 13 Pacific. No. 20 Cal Baptist comes to the North Shore the following week. Top-ranked Stanford will visit Laie for matches on Sept. 10 and 14, giving the Seasiders six home matches against ranked teams in 11 days.

The BYUH program is in its fourth year of existence.

Kauai Motocross race this weekend

The Kauai Motocross Riders Association's 50th Annual Labor Day Races are set for Saturday and Sunday at Wailua Motocross Track.

Registration for riders ends Friday. A late fee will apply for same-day registration.

Gates open each day at 6 a.m. Admission is $5.

Keep Kids Off Streets Race Day Sept. 6

The Hawaii Region Sports Car Club of America will present "Keep Kids Off the Streets Race Day" Sept. 6 at Hawaii Raceway Park.

The event will feature 130 mph/open wheel, sports car and sedan racing, as well as drifting exhibitions and short road racing. The day's emphasis will be on showing youth safe racing, and racing on a supervised track rather than on the street.

Gates open at 9 a.m. and races will run until 4 p.m.

Tickets will be available at Speedgear Ala Moana, Eurosport and online at speedhawaii.com.

Drift Session Nights Sept. 5: The Drift Session, LLC., will hold "Drift Session Nights" Sept. 5 5-10 p.m. at Hawaii Motorsports Center.

The event will feature open drift practice on three separate courses for novice and veteran drivers alike.
