Free party celebrates full new hair looks

J Salon will unveil its fall/winter collection of new hair looks for men and women at a free artists' opening from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow during the First Friday Nuuanu Gallery Walk.

Stylist/owner Joe Randazzo says it's time to put down your weapons and rejoice as the flat-iron craze is over. The ultraflat styles so popular in recent years are history as hairstyles go sensuously fuller, with free-flowing shapes, layers, waves and movement.

Models Sonya Balmores (Miss Teen Hawaii 2004 and Miss Teen USA First Runner-up 2004), Mary Jalie, Jessica Warfield, Alicia Davis, Chris Van Wort and Jayson Matthews display styles shot by photographer Karin Kovalsky.

The photos capture a complete look, including makeup from J Salon's own line, and clothing in warm neutrals of cream, tan and camel for a crisp, cool fall look that complements the hairstyles.

The event will also feature hosted cocktails and bossa nova beats by deejays Niko of Concrete Productions and K-ing, Seeko and Chia of the Freeform Sound Collective, in association with Positive Beats.

The salon is at 1128 Nuuanu Ave., Suite 103, and its regular hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. For more information, call 550-4441.
