What's this -- a spat over game music between UH football coach June Jones and newscaster Joe Moore? Ridiculous! I can see the letters to the editor from people taking sides now. As a fan who has been following UH football for more years than I wanna remember, gimme victories, not this childish stuff ...

onward: Carlos Delgado, California Pizza Kitchen's operations chief here, is offering a CPKids Tour for groups of eight kids or less at any CPK on Oahu. The kids will talk with employees about their jobs and learn about food. Groups will go through the back of kitchen, meet dishwashers and other members of the kitchen crew and see how the sauces, salads and desserts are made. About 40 percent of the chain's managers started as dishwashers. Then the group will visit the front of the kitchen and get to make and throw pizzas that will go into the oven. After that, the kids will sit down and eat what they made. Sounds like fun. Call the nearest CPK and ask the manager to arrange a time for a tour ...

Jim has strong St. Patrick golf committee

St. Patrick School is holding its inaugural golf tourney Nov. 10 at the Hawaii Prince course. Big Jim Nicholson, the attorney and former Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle, is chairing the tourney and has a bunch of heavy hitters on his committee. They include: Cal Lee, Tony Guerrero Jr., Damien Farias, Randy Lee III, Robert Allen, Ed and Mike McInerny, David O'Connor, Kaleve Tufono-Iosefa and Werner Umbhau. Entry for the three-person scramble, 18-hole shotgun event is $375 per team or $125 per person. It will benefit St. Patrick's building and renovation campaign. Blaisdell Concert Hall will be filled with hot jazz trumpet and fluegelhorn sounds when Arturo Sandoval guests with Matt Catingub and the Honolulu Symphony Pops Sept. 10-11. Singer Rocky Brown is also in the show, as is her husband, DeShannon Higa, who blows a mean trumpet himself. Sandoval has won four Grammy Awards, six Billboard Awards and an Emmy for composing the underscore of the HBO movie on his life, "For Love or Country." Showtime is 8 p.m. ... Slack key and steel guitarist Ken Emerson will give fans a taste of his new Cord International/Hana Ola album, "Hawaiian Tangos, Hulas and Blues," today at 2 p.m. at Borders Waikele and at Borders Ward at 8 p.m. ...
