Koolau's Lynch defends stroke play title

Koolau's John Lynch defended his 2003 title with a 5-stroke win yesterday at the Aloha Section PGA Mauna Kea Resort Stroke Play Championship.

Lynch shot a 4-under 68 yesterday to finish 3-under for the tournament and take home the $2,500 winner's check.

Kiahuna's Ron Castillo Jr. was second, while Mauna Kea's Kevin Hayashi and Hualalai's Kitt Felte finished 4-over, tied for third.

Larry Stubblefield shot a 2-under par 70 on the final day to repeat as senior division champion. Kalakaua's Kerry Greenwood was super senior champion.

Mauna Kea Resort has signed a three-year agreement as the event's title sponsor to host the tournament through 2006.

Agaki-Bustin and Sonomura win Nakama Junior: Zakry Agaki-Bustin and Travis Sonomura teamed up to win the A-flight at the Casey Nakama Junior Tour 2-man Team alternate shot tournament Sunday at the Hawaii Kai Golf Course.

They combined for a 65 on the 18-hole, par 54 course.

Brent Aratani and Ty Yasuda were a shot back, while Jaymie Nakama and Rob Kishi were third with a 68 score.

There were four flights of junior golfers in the field.

Inakoshi, Yamashita, Agosto, Jang, Kim win: Skye Inakoshi, Scotty Yamashita, and Christian Agosto won playoffs to win the boys/girls 7-8, boys 9-10 and boys 11-12 tournaments Saturday in an Oahu Junior Golf Association event at Coral Creek Golf Course.

Helen Kim won the championship in the girls 9-10 division and Anna Jang was the winner in girls 11-12.

Oahu earns top seed at Babe Ruth World Series

Zach Kometani delivered a bases-loaded single in the fifth inning to score Geoffrey Kunita and Cammy Lee to help Oahu to a 3-1 win over North Carolina yesterday at the Babe Ruth 14 World Series.

Oahu ran its record to 4-0 in pool play to earn a bye as the single elimination championship round begins today in Wilson, N.C.

The Hawaii team is now the top seed in the American League division.

Paul Sneider pitched a complete game for the win and had two hits. Oahu played errorless defense.
