Academy of Arts Showcase
sales bring in $192,000


Guests were smiling at the Academy of Arts Showcase fund-raiser Sunday, thanks to the many food and wine stations manned by top chefs and winemakers. Academy Director Stephen Little must also be smiling because Showcase art sales alone grossed about $192,000. The sales benefit children's programs and local artists. Event Chairs Donna Goth and Pat Loui can take a bow. Helping make the event a success were two musical groups. Michael, Oliver and Patrick Boe knocked out Latin rhythms in the West Court. Richie Pratt, Chris Yeh, Mark Tanouye and Tom Chun played jazz at the entry to Luce Pavilion ... The academy said goodbye to one of its own Friday. National Guardsman and Academy groundskeeper Marlon Peralta, 39, is headed for Baghdad by way of Fort Bliss, leaving behind wife, Carolina, and children Carlone, Maricar and Jameica Russ ...

Winemaker Greg Graziano of Mendocino County will hold a wine dinner at the Willows Friday with MidWeek's Rick Hamada as host, $40. Call the Willows, 952-9200 ...

More 'North Shore' shows boost isle industry

"North Shore" being picked up for nine more episodes is great news for Hawaii's film industry. Jason Momoa continues to shine in the show and his character's role keeps growing. Hawaii's beauty is also a big star and draws audiences, along with gorgeous fashionable women such as Brooke Burns and handsome, buff guys ...
