She’s got the right steps
to be a deadly robot killer

Another up and comer from Hawaii left this weekend for bigger things. Kalaheo High School graduate Alicia Vela-Bailey, 22, is in Romania filming "BloodRayne," the film adaptation of the Majesco action-horror video game. See if you can spot her when the movie comes out next year. Vela-Bailey is the body/stunt double for lead actress Kristanna Loken of "T3: Rise of the Machines." (She played the deadly robot pursuing Arnold Schwarzenegger's character.) Vela-Bailey's mom Cecelia said her daughter's found a niche as a tall model/actress who can incorporate dance and martial arts moves in fight scenes. Vela-Bailey started dancing with Marcelo Pacleb's 24-7 DanceForce in the ninth grade and competed in gymnastics. This is Vela-Bailey's second movie -- she just returned in June from filming "Ultraviolet" in Hong Kong and Shanghai, where she was the body double for Milla Jojovich ("Resident Evil"). ... "North Shore" cast members Jason Momoa, Kristoffer Polaha and Corey Sevier attended "Elvis -- The Concert" Sunday night at the Blaisdell Arena. Momoa was so taken by the show, which included Elvis footage, that he ran backstage to hug concert promoter Tom Moffatt and thank him for bringing the show to Hawaii. During intermission Momoa also bought a pair of Elvis boxer shorts and wore them over his jeans for the rest of the night. ...

Geiser is joining the restaurant's staff as sommelier in charge of the beverage department. His duties include pre-selecting wines for chef George Mavrothalassitis' creations. ... If you're one of those people who like to watch Food TV, Sub-Zero started its monthly cooking demonstrations in its Piikoi and King street showroom. Chef Roy Yamaguchi prepared four dishes for an audience of about 40 while master sommelier Chuck Furuya poured matching wines. Nalo Farms owner Dean Okimoto was also there to answer questions. Sub-Zero will also offer cooking classes in the showroom. ...

SAY HELLO to Grass Skirt Grill in Haleiwa. Owner Johnny Moore took over Kua'aina's spot and offers plate lunches and sandwiches ranging from $4.95 (Teriyaki Chicken or Garden Burger) to $11.95 (Shrimp Scampi). Need dessert? Just down the street in the Hawaiian Lifestyle store, Dave and JulieAnn Hoselton started a chocolate counter in their art store. They offer different kinds of truffles for $3 a piece or 2 for $5. Heavenly!
