Musician is moonlighting
-- as a working musician

LOCAL NOTABLES: Christian Yrizarry of Ho'onu'a has launched a second full-time musical project with Sani and percussionist Jon Porlas. The threesome plays Tiki's Grill & Bar on Sundays and Tuesdays, poolside at the Waikiki Beach Marriott on Mondays and at the new Hula Grill in the Outrigger Waikiki on Wednesdays and Thursdays -- and keep their weekends free for Ho'onu'a gigs. Yrizarry says he and Ho'onu'a co-founder Jared Keo are working on a new Ho'onu'a album. Should be out by early next year ... Tommy D, veteran rock 'n roller and decorated Vietvet (196th Light Infantry Brigade), is hoping to meet Dion at Tom Moffatt's "Show of Stars" in Blaisdell Arena tomorrow. Tommy says he loved singing all of Dion's hits back in the early '60s and was such a serious fan that he won a big rock trivia contest by correctly identifying Dion as the first rocker to use a kazoo on a Top 10 hit ("Little Diane" 1962). Wonder if Dion will include the song in his set tomorrow ... Kimo Kahoano capped a great week hosting the morning show on Hawaiian 105 KINE with a live rendition of "Aloha Friday" last Friday. Never one to hog the mic, Kahoano invited the show's hard-working producer, Tony Solis, to join him on harmonies. Word is Kahoano got lots of calls during the week from folks happy to have him back on the air ...

GOT YOUR GOAT?: It's still on the down-low but a veteran stage actor is quietly lobbying for a local production of Edward Albee's controversial Tony Award-winning hit "The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?" Albee's premise -- a happily married architect falls deeply in love with a goat -- sounds at first like a farce, but becomes a challenging parable on the limits that society puts on an individual's expression of love and choice of lovers ...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY: To Aloha Joe and Ben Dowling, who are celebrating today ... Also to Justin Young (Saturday), Raiatea Helm and Ed Kenney (Sunday) and Rory Wild (Tuesday) ...

WIN A 'UKE!: Herb Ohta Jr. is teaming up with KoAloha 'Ukuleles and Borders Books & Music to put some extra punch behind the in-store promotional performances for his current album, " 'Ukulele Breeze." Go to either Borders store and fill out an entry form to win a KoAloha ukulele. Winning names will be drawn when he performs at Borders Ward at 8 p.m. tomorrow and at Borders Waikele at 2 p.m. Saturday. Winners must be 18 or older and present at the performance to win, but fans of any age can buy a copy of " 'Ukulele Breeze" and have it autographed after the show ...
