Flipped car injures 2,
shuts down Kalakaua

Police shut down Kalakaua Avenue for about 40 minutes yesterday after a dark blue Ford Focus flipped over on its side when its 78-year-old male driver swerved and hit a curb.

Police said a silver Chevy Trailblazer stopped for traffic at Kalakaua Avenue and Kaiulani Street in the middle lane when the driver of the Focus swerved right to avoid rear-ending the Trailblazer.

The Focus clipped the Trailblazer, hit the right curb and landed on its right side at 11:12 a.m., police said.

Firefighters pulled the man and his 78-year-old wife out through the driver's side door.

They were taken to Queen's Medical Center in stable condition.
