Bulls lose at soccer national championships

The Honolulu Soccer Club Bulls '85 Under-19 boys saw their record fall to 1-1 at the United States Youth Soccer National Championships yesterday with a 1-0 loss to '84 CASL Elite (N.C.) at the Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

The Bulls must defeat Scott Gallagher (Mo.) today to play in Sunday's championship match.

Scott Gallagher improved to 2-0 with a 2-1 win over the Baltimore Bays yesterday.

"Our lack of experience showed today. We showed our youthfulness of never having been here and having the euphoria of winning our first game," Bulls coach Phil Neddo said. "If we play well tomorrow and shoot with all our barrels, we can win this thing. This is a national championship and everyone wants it."

Mililani loses opener: The Mililani Soccer Club Strikers Under-13 boys dropped their first match in the United States Club Soccer National Tournament at Cary, N.C., yesterday.

Mililani lost to the Pennsylvania Classics 2-0.

"We played well and we are happy with the way we played," said Mililani coach Jeff Yamamoto. "They had some fast guys up front that created some good opportunities for them, but we had our chances too."

Mililani plays again today against Goldstar.

At the same tournament, the Real Hawaii Futbol Club defeated Washington (D.C.) Freedom 2-0 yesterday in a girls 12 and under match. Both goals were scored by Mari Miyashiro. Real Hawaii FC plays the Chicago Magic today in a pool-play game today.

Chan Kim's 5-over 77 and Kelcie Kawano's 4-over 76 earned them first place in the boys and girls 13 to 14 division.

Murray to compete at NACAC championships

Hawaii thrower Novelle Murray qualified to represent Canada at the North American, Central American and Caribbean championships for athletes under 23. Athletes qualified by achieving an NACAC standard or being the highest place finisher at the Canadian track and field championships.

Murray, the two-time Western Athletic Conference discus champion, just completed her sophomore season with the Rainbow Wahine track and field team.

UH signs freestyle specialists
