The siblings of Morgan Heritage make up "the royal family of reggae."

Reggae time

Ace reggae group Morgan Heritage makes its Hawaiian debut at Volcanoes Nightclub tonight.

Dubbed "the royal family of reggae," Siblings Peter, Mr. Mojo, Lukes, Gramps and Una made their mark starting in 1997 with the now-signature song "Reggae Bring Back Love." Other popular songs include "Down By the River" (from the seminal "More Teachings" album), "Don't Haffi Dread," "Girls Round the World" (with Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley) and a collaboration with Shaggy called "Keep On Jammin'."

The band has even crossed over to the skate punk crowd, touring as part of the Vans Warped Tours of 2001 and '02. Morgan Heritage's latest album, 2003's "Three in One," features guest rock band Good Charlotte on the track "Jump Around."

Another album track, "She's Still Loving Me," is a current hit on local island rhythm radio stations.

Local acts Typical Hawaiians, THC and Humble Soul will open the Volcanoes concert here, and Kekai Boyz, Chief Ragga, MoeMoe'a, Hot Lava 808, Technical Difficulties, Sudden Rush and Ekolu at the Parker Ranch concert.

Tickets for the show, with doors opening at 9 p.m., go for $20 general and $40 VIP, adding $10 to the prices when purchased at the nightclub tonight. They're available at the Blaisdell Arena box office, all Cheapo Music stores, Ticketmaster outlets at all Times Supermarkets, and online at ticketmaster.com.

Kalapana, C&K perform at the Shell tomorrow

Kalapana returns to the Waikiki Shell for a 30th anniversary concert tomorrow night and, what's more, the opening act is Cecilio and Kapono, reuniting the two biggest local music acts of the 1970s on one bill.

The concert's at 7 p.m., with tickets ranging from $17, $25 and $35 (the $17 for lawn seating will go up to $20 tomorrow). Call 591-2211 for more info.

The Shell holds a lot of history for Kalapana. The original quartet, plus sidemen Alvin Fejarang and Michael Paulo, set the all-time attendance record of 11,200-plus back in 1976. The Shell was also the site of founding member Mackey Feary's last performance with the group before his problematic imprisonment and tragic death in 1999.

Paulo will be flying in from Los Angeles for the Shell show tomorrow, and Zanuck Lindsey and Garin Poliahu will fill the spots once held by Feary and Fejarang.
